The 2019 Cervelo P5 Disc Dura-Ace Di2 TT/tri bike is focused entirely on performance. Over seven years in the making, Cervelo applied years of experience in engineering the fastest aero bikes and real-world testing with our pro athletes to make a bike that is more aero, lighter, and stiffer than ever before. They’ve done so by building the fastest UCI-legal bike possible, both through computer simulation and in the real world.
The numbers back up Cervelo’s claims. The new P5 is a claimed 22% stiffer at the head tube and 26% stiffer at the bottom bracket compared to the previous P5. Cervelo also managed to cut 18% weight as well; a size medium frame and fork cutting down on the weight by 350g. Part of this comes down to a smaller overall footprint than before. The new bottom bracket area is actually slightly smaller than before to increase aerodynamics around the BB shell, but with more efficient modeling, is a stiffer overall interface. Particular time is spent with the front end of the bike too, as it features a profile that is both stiffer and narrower than before. All of this is done despite the addition of disc brakes, which vastly improve stopping power and allow for more aero wheels. Balancing aerodynamics vs weight is key, but Cervelo has done an exemplary job here.
A frame isn’t everything here, and Cervelo paid particular attention to the details. Cervelo’s speed riser handlebar setup allows a range of reach adjustment of 95 mm, 30 mm width adjustment, and extension adjustments of 45 mm in order to perfectly tailor the ride position. This is done using a single tool, with some of the best adjustability on the market. The cockpit also has mounts for both a between the arms bottle cage, a built-in Garmin mount, and integrated Di2 charge port. Other features include a custom UCI-legal 500 mL aero bottle, two custom bento boxes, a fully-removable front derailleur hanger, and a removable plastic chainstay cover to prevent chain slap in packaging.
The 2019 Cervelo P5 Disc Dura-Ace Di2 features a full carbon frame and fork, and pairs it to a Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 TT drivetrain. A ENVE SES Disc 5.6 wheelset, Ceramic Speed OSPW + UFO Chain Upgrade Kit, Prologo TGale PAS NACK saddle, Cervélo HB11 Basebar and EX11 30deg Aerobar, and accessories complete the build.
